General information about Hericium: It was proven that Hericium contains potassium, zinc, iron, germanium, selenium, phosphorus, but only little sodium; in addition, all essential amino acids, as well as polysaccharides and polypeptides. Prof. Dr. Schnitzler of the University of Weihenstephan had been working in Asia for several years and brought the Hericium back to Germany; his research did prove some of the effects which were already known in literature. Hericium seems to be considerably effective in particular in the area of the digestive system (e.g. the gullet, the stomach, the bowels)! According to the TCM Hericium is used especially in the treatment of stomach cancer, gastritis, gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers and gullet cancer. According to a study, Hericium was successfully used in the treatment of gastritis patients. 82% of the patients experienced a significant improvement of the typical symptoms, while 58% even reported a complete recovery of the inflammation. Thereby, the stomach's mucous membrane was sustainably rebuilt. Like Shiitake, Reishi and other types of mushrooms, Hericium can also be cultivated in the garden or on the balcony. It is recommended to eat about 100g fresh mushrooms or 10g dried mushrooms per day. Extract can usually be purchased in capsule form (note: some suppliers offer powder in capsule form!!). The fruiting body is dried and powdered. Then, the powder is extracted via hot water extraction; that means that all water-soluble ingredients dissolve in the water and are then retrieved as powder when dried. All not-water-soluble ingredients are washed out and are not contained in the extract. For more information about the effect of Medicinal Mushrooms – please click here!
